I just love mom and son photos. Maybe it's because I'm the mom of a of one of these creatures. It's the relationship. The bond. When he reaches for my hand as we walk down the sidewalk.. When you truly capture that relationship. Sigh.
I think that is why I love these images so much.
School hasn't been out a week, and I'm already in full Senior 2014 mode. Love it! I have several Seniors scheduled for the coming weeks. I kicked off the Senior shooting season with one of my favorite young ladies. Susan.
Susan is what all parents of baby girls hope their daughters will grow up to be. She plans a career in nursing and will be leaving soon for Governor's School. She is very involved in FFA, so where else than the family farm would we do her Senior portraits? A natural beauty through and through.
Prom 2013. What a day. It rained almost all. day. long. We stayed in touch all day. There was a break in the weather, so we rushed to a new location since the planned location was out of the question. Some things are just meant to be, and we couldn't have asked for better conditions. Here are some favorites from Nick and Katie's session.

My sweet girl returned to dance this year after a 3-year break. She has worked so hard this year, and I could not be more proud of her. Her recital is this weekend, so one day after school last week we had a little shoot of her in her costumes. I cannot wait to see her perform this weekend. My beautiful dancer.
Her tap routine is to Bell Hop Boogie, and I absolutely love this costume. With the vintage feel of the costume, I wanted to use a vintage backdrop. She will be using the larger suitcase in her routine. Love.
Her ballet is to True Colors. They are artists and will have colorful streamers. We did a few in the studio and then did a few more at a couple favorite locations. I need to add that the locations were all Molly's choosing.
For the second time I have been honored with the award of Best Photographer in Lincoln County. Wow. It is humbling. I am so blessed to have wonderful clients who allow me to share in the most precious moments in their lives. Since beginning this journey I have been blessed to witness a birth, see dads give away their little girls, snuggle newborn babies, have cake thrown at me by one-year-olds, and hear children read their Christmas lists to Santa. I have made many new friends who first came to me for family sessions.
I do not have words to express how much I appreciate each and every one of my clients. Thank you for choosing me to capture the most precious moments of your lives. Thank you for your trust. Thank you for your business. Thank you for your friendship. I am truly blessed.
Yesterday, I came across some photos of myself with my children when they were little. So many memories. A lot of moms have the same problem I do. They are usually the one behind the camera. A photograph with their children is a rarity. That is why with Mother's Day coming up, I thought this would be a wonderful time to set aside a day just for moms.
I have put together a wonderful package that includes a 30 minute session to capture the beautiful bond between mother and child. Child does not mean only young children. No, these are designed to celebrate moms of all ages. Grandmothers with their daughters and their daughter's daughters are welcome. Moms with their teenage children. Mommies with their babies. This seemed to be the day of big sisters. Paisley and Hudson were so sweet together. I have photographed both of them separately, but this was the first time together.
Hudson had gotten so big since his 3 week session. I couldn't believe how well he could hold up his head.
This year I decided to wait until after Easter to have Spring Mini-sessions. With Easter being early this year, I was concerned the weather wouldn't be great. I think it was a good decision, because we turned out to have a lot of cool, wet weather during the month of March. However, the first weekend of April turned out to be gorgeous.
I started the morning with Riley and her new baby sister, Reese. These images of them together just melt my heart.
Josie, Josie, Josie. This is her 3rd time in the studio. Each session just seems to get better. When her mommy and I talked about her 9-month shoot, she said she was bringing jewelry and wanted to do something like dress up. I had just ordered this new backdrop that I am in love with, and it was perfect for this little vintage setup.

I came across these images today and realized that I never shared them. They are so special that I can't believe I forgot. This was a secret mission I was a part of, and I couldn't share them before Christmas for fear of ruining the surprise.
My friend Anna asked me to have a session with her and her sisters as a Christmas surprise for her parents. If you know their family, you know how much they love their family farm. I love the family farmhouse, and behind it is a barn that has been there at least as long I would guess.
The barn's days are numbered. The back portion is already falling in. Anna loves the barn, and it was important for her to have images captured of her and her sisters in front of it. I know they have many, many memories from times spent in this barnyard. I've said over and over again how a location can give so much more meaning to your images. This is a great example of that.
I feel blessed to have been asked to capture these memories. I feel even more blessed to call this family friends.

Hudson's mom brought him to see me at 3-weeks. I had eagerly been awaiting his arrival. I've photographed his big sister several times before, and I couldn't wait to meet Hudson.
Hudson's nursery is done in sock monkeys so his mom brought along some props plus a blanket made by his great-grandmother. I love when moms do that. It's the little things like that make the images so much more meaningful.

Tennis practice has started for us, and I've been seeing boys at the baseball field. It may be hard to believe, but spring is almost here! That means time for spring sports. So let's make this a season to remember with some really cool images! Baseball, softball, tennis, soccer...whatever your sport or sports for that matter!

My girl...talkin' 'bout my girl. That song by The Temptations is stuck in my head as I type this.
My girl is growing up. It's almost too much for a mom sometimes. I'm so used to seeing her in a ponytail and khakis almost every day. She's in her first year of middle school. A lot of the girls in her class are wearing makeup now, but that's something she's not interested in at all at this point. So when she was elected homecoming attendant for her class, and I saw her all dressed up, wearing makeup with her hair styled it hit me just how grown up she is becoming.
It did my heart good that she wanted to wear one of my old dresses. She was stunning in it. We did a little mini-session in the studio. She's mine, and I have to say she is beautiful. My girl.
There is no green like spring green. I am amazed by it every single year. That is why I am offering Spring Mini-sessions this year. It is the perfect time for a session in the beautiful backdrop God has given us in Tennessee. I will decide the location a little closer to time, but it will be a rural setting.

Baby boys. I love them. I especially love them when they remind of my Stewart as much as Reese does. That long, skinny body and those beautiful eyes. It was love at first sight for me. He was one of the most content babies I've ever photographed. 5 months isn't one of the most common ages I have in the studio, but I'm so glad his mom brought him in at this age. It's one of the sweetest stages and often gets overlooked. Here are some of my favorites from our playtime together.
It's the week to celebrate love so it's only appropriate to share another Valentine Mini-session. Really, we should celebrate love every week of the year, and I think Bartley's parents will love these all year long. Bartley is now 10 months old. I can't believe how much he as grown just since his visit with Santa in the studio a couple months ago. I just love his curls. Babies change so much in that first year of life, and I love a mommy who sees how important it is to capture each of those stages. Bartley is now standing on this own and since I saw him I bet he has taken a step or two or 20!
I couldn't resist sharing this very last one. Proof that even the best subjects have moments. :-)
